Matilda 2015-08-16

In this book, Matilda discovers her love of books and by the age of three, has taught herself to read. At four she has read all the children’s stories in the library. She is oblivious to her brilliance and her parents are less than encouraging. “What’s wrong with the telly, for heaven’s sake?” her father demands, while her mother insists that brains never got a woman anywhere. It is not until Matilda attends school and meets the lovely Miss Honey that anyone begins to nurture her talent. But things don’t become easier for Matilda there. She must survive a place ruled by the frightening and larger-than-life Miss Trunchbull who has Matilda in her sights, insisting she is “a nasty little worm”. Within the familiar schoolground setting, Roald Dahl takes his readers into the world of one little girl enduring cruelty, loneliness and an overwhelming power to teach lessons to the adults in her life. The combination of speaking directly to the reader and crawling into the minds of his characters, is classic Dahl. Only he could be responsible for dreaming up the amazing tales of disciplinary proceedings at Crunchem Hall Primary School. This story is beautifully heartwarming; a surprising mix of humour, adventure and mystery. And, as with any Dahl story, Matilda provides a strong message to children: you can do it.

As Matilda comes to know about her teacher, the headmistress Miss Trunchbull and something unique about herself as well, she uses her abilities to make everyone happy. As usual, you can do nothing but admire the story and the narration hen it comes to the Dahl audio series.

Matilda (English) by Roald Dahl 2016-02-15

The story of a small girl who is completely opposite of the normal girls, she loves to read and study. She is a very witty girl and has gathered enough knowledge for middle school, while she has not even attended kindergarten. She is an orphan and when her teacher comes to know of this, she being impressed by Matilda, proposes to adopt her. She is really happy. A must for those who want to develop love and affection for studies. Her quest for knowledge is appreciable. I love it.

This is an awesome book as per my opinion ,this books contains a very good this ,Matilda is a girl who likes to read a lots of books at a small age she reads the books which are for the people who are much bigger than her age and also the book which is read by her is also bighearted by her,to tell about her family ,her fathers lives in an another town and her mothers is out to play a game known as 'BINGO' She lives alone ,she trusts the librarian a lot and also the librarian likes Matilda because a librarian always wants people to come in libraries and read books and a girl like Matilda is a great one amongst the people who would be liked by an librarian. The librarian sees her interest in reading the books so she decides to lend Matilda books to home for a month as then Matilda would not have to walk all the way down the street to library,by this librarian thinks the relation between them would increase and it does too.Rather than this Matilda trusts a aunty who lives in her neighborhood when she comes to know that her husband troubles her a lot she goes in the school show something which is almost unbelievable and solves the problem. This is how the book 'Rohl Dahl's Matilda is. Thank you

Its a great story. It contains some good and some evil characters(which you'll hate).Matilda, a little girl is a prodigy. She starts reading books at very young age and develops her love of reading throughout her life. But her parents think that reading books is useless for a girl. But again with God's grace Matilda overcomes all the obstacles in her life and also finds someone who cares for her (of course I'm talking about miss Honey). This story is heartwarming, interesting and in a single word its amazing.

In a small Buckinghamshire village, Matilda is a young girl of unusual precocity, but is often ill-treated or neglected by her parents. In retaliation, she pulls pranks such as gluing her father's hat to his head, hiding a friend's parrot in the chimney to simulate a burglar or ghost, and secretly bleaching her father's hair.At school, Matilda befriends her kindergarten teacher, Jennifer Honey, who is astonished by Matilda's intellectual abilities. She tries to move her into a higher class but is refused by the headmistress, the tyrannical Agatha Trunchbull. Miss Honey also tries to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood about Matilda's intelligence, but they ignore her.Matilda quickly develops a particularly strong bond with Miss Honey and watches as Miss Trunchbull terrorizes her students with creative, over-the-top punishments. -written by komakshi

matilda 2016-11-02

The exceptional Matilda is about a smart, easily infuriated little girl who is misunderstood by her parents and loathed by the school's headmistress. On the other hand her kind and generous teacher, Miss Honey, thinks she is a brilliant academic genius. Matilda has a number of excellent schemes in her head to teach her nasty parents and headmistress a lesson. Whilst Matilda is the novel's central character many readers will be drawn to the larger-than-life, extrovert, humourous and strangely likeable headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. Her unique reprimands to the children, with phrases such as 'blithering idiot' and 'stagnant cesspool'will leave you in stitches. The novel is littered with excellent examples of Dahl's use of creative imagination to keep the reader's attention alive such as when Matilda uses her magical eyes to write a truthful message to the headmistress on the blackboard. On a disappointing note for me, Quentin Blake's doodle-like illustrations failed to match Dahl's impressive and brilliant character descriptions.

matilda 2016-12-02

Meet Matilda. She lives with her mean parents. We mean, they're mean on mean. They ignore her, which is extra tragic because she's shaping up to be a super-genius. In spite of them, she teaches herself to read, and heads to the local library, where Mrs. Phelps sets her up with a very advanced reading list. Sure, Matilda's home life stinks. But she's a clever girl, so she decides to play tricks on her parents whenever they behave badly. She plays three pranks, gluing her dad's hat to his head, disguising a neighbor's parrot as a ghost, and dying her dad's hair blonde. Yes, these are as awesome as they sound. Then, Matilda starts going to school. On day one, her teacher Miss Honey quickly realizes how smart Matilda is. Miss Honey even visits the headmistress, the Trunchbull, to ask for help with Matilda, but the Trunchbull ain't havin' it. The same thing happens when Miss Honey visits the Wormwoods. Meanwhile, Matilda and her friend Lavender meet Hortensia, who tells them all about how horrible the Trunchbull is. They see the Trunchbull throw a little girl through the playground by her hair. Another day, the Trunchbull force-feeds a kid named Bruce Bogtrotter an entire cake. This woman is bad news. Lavender decides to prank the Trunchbull on a class visit. She captures a newt and puts it into the Trunchbull's water glass. The Trunchbull blames Matilda for the newt, which makes our girl so mad she pushes the Trunchbull's water glass over with her mind. Whoa. After class, she tells Miss Honey what she did, and then she gives her teacher a little magic show, which results in Miss Honey inviting little Matilda to tea. Turns out Miss Honey is really poor. She tells Matilda about her past. After her mom died, her mean aunt straight up ruined her life. In fact, Miss Honey suspects that the aunt might have killed her father, and stolen all Miss Honey's money. Oh, and by the way, her aunt is the Trunchbull. We're totally serious. Matilda decides to use her telekinetic powers to help Miss Honey, so she practices and practices and practices until finally the day comes when she can get some serious revenge. The Trunchbull visits Miss Honey's class again. The Trunchbull is acting as abusive as ever when she's interrupted by a piece of chalk that's writing on its own. It writes that the Trunchbull has to stop cheating Miss Honey, give the things she stole back, and get rolling. Or else. Needless to say, the Trunchbull passes out cold. Wouldn't you? Soon we find out the Trunchbull obeyed Matilda's instructions. Miss Honey moves home and starts living a decent life again. And Matilda, who visits her every day, gets moved up to the school's highest class. After moving up, Matilda loses her powers. One day, she finds out that her parents are planning to move to Spain, ASAP. Matilda doesn't want to go with them. We'll come right out and tell you guys that this is a win-win. That's because Matilda moves in with Miss Honey, where the two live happily (and smartly) ever after.

Matilda- A must read for all kids. 2017-01-02

Roald Dahl perfectly potrays Matilda as a child prodigy who is regarded as worthless by her parents, brother and the principal of her school. Even through all the hatred and envy she manages to stand out with the help of her teacher Miss Lavender. It is a very inspirational story for young kids and it gives out the message of having confidence and faith in oneself and not to let the distasteful remarks get to you.

A BRILLIANT BOOK 2017-04-20

Matilda is an excellent book by the famous author, Roald Dahl, who also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and The Twits. Matilda is on the Premiers reading challenge and its ID is 252. Its is about a young girl called Matilda who is five and she can Multiply enormous numbers like nineteen times fourteen, read adult novels like Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and many more amazing things, she even has special magic powers. Unfortunately for Matilda her mother and father underestimate her, treating her like a scab. The children hating head mistress is even worse, she believes her parents, disbelieves Miss Honey, refuses to put Matilda in year six where she belongs and denies being a child once herself. Read this book to see how Matilda and Miss Honey get rid of the foul Miss Trunchbull. I absolutley love it, It may have some negitave points but its still enjoyable.

Her unique reprimands to the children, with phrases such as 'blithering idiot' and 'stagnant cesspool' will leave you in stitches. Despite this Matilda is a fantastic and entertaining novel and I recommend it to children aged 7 – 12 and a must read for lovers of Roald Dahl.It was sort of fun.I loved this book.

Matilda (English) by Roald Dahl 2017-09-04

In a small Buckinghamshire village, Matilda Wormwood is a six-year-old girl of unusual precocity, but she is often ill-treated or neglected by her parents. In retaliation, she resorts to pranks such as glueing her father's hat to his head, hiding a friend's parrot in the chimney to simulate a burglar or ghost, and secretly bleaching her father's hair. At first, Matilda was naughty and used her powers to revenge herself. Matilda has read a variety of books by different authors, especially at the age of four, when she read many in six months including The Secret Garden, Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist, Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, Gone to Earth, Kim, The Invisible Man, The Old Man and the Sea, The Sound and the Fury, The Grapes of Wrath, The Good Companions, Brighton Rock, Animal Farm, Moby Dick, Ivanhoe, The Red Pony and Peter and Wendy. At school, Matilda befriends her reception teacher, Jennifer Honey, who is astonished by Matilda's intellectual abilities. She tries to move her into a higher class but is refused by the headmistress, the tyrannical Agatha Trunchbull. Miss Honey also tries to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood about Matilda's intelligence, but they ignore her. Matilda quickly develops a particularly strong bond with Miss Honey and watches as Miss Trunchbull terrorises her students with creative, over-the-top punishments. When Matilda's friend, Lavender, plays a practical joke on Miss Trunchbull by placing a newt in her jug of water, Matilda uses an unexpected power of telekinesis to tip the glass of water containing the newt onto Miss Trunchbull. After Matilda reveals her powers to Miss Honey, Miss Honey confides that she was raised by an abusive aunt after the suspicious death of her father. Her aunt is revealed to be Miss Trunchbull, who appears (among other misdeeds) to be withholding her niece's inheritance so that Miss Honey has to live in poverty in a derelict farm cottage. Preparing to avenge Miss Honey, Matilda develops her telekinetic gift through practice at home. Later, during a lesson that Miss Trunchbull is teaching, Matilda telekinetically raises a piece of chalk to the blackboard and writes on it, posing as the spirit of Miss Honey's late father and demanding that Miss Trunchbull hand over Miss Honey's house and wages and leave the region forever. This is soon done, and with the approval of a new school headteacher, the capable and good-natured Mr. Trilby, Matilda herself advances to the highest level of schooling. Rather to her relief, she is no longer capable of telekinesis; this is explained by Miss Honey as the result of using her mind on a more challenging curriculum. At the same time, Miss Honey is promoted to the headmistress position. Matilda continues to visit Miss Honey at her house regularly, but one day finds her parents hastily packing to escape from the police, who are after her father for selling stolen cars. Matilda asks permission to live with Miss Honey, to which her parents rather uninterestedly agree. So both she and Miss Honey find their happy ending. Mr Wormwood was based on a real-life character from Roald Dahl's hometown of Great Missenden.

250 This story is, quite simply, Roald Dahl at his best. Opening the cover to find the slightly tattered pages filled with uncomplicated illustrations, I am instantly transported back to my childhood. I can picture the places I sat to read this story, reacquaint myself with the feelings of comfort, inspiration and amusement I experienced whenever I read it. It is one of my all-time favourites. Oh, plus a message to grown-ups – treat your children nicely, as they’re not as helpless as you may imagine!

Matilda (English) by Roald Dahl 2017-09-13

Matilda was a small girl who was not cared by her parents at all. She was a very peculiar child. By the age of four Matilda taught herself to read to read with the help of the magazines and newspapers at her house. Matilda was ignored by everybody in her family. Both her parents did not concentrate on Matilda. Every afternoon when Matilda’s mother also went to the club for bingo, Matilda was left alone in her house. Gradually she engaged herself by going to the public library that was ten minutes away from her house. The librarian Mrs. Phelps was really fascinated by the ability of this little girl and helped her choose books and took great care of her. Matilda’s father, Mr. Wormwood was a car dealer, who cheated his customers by selling second-hand cars. He did not realize Matilda’s ability and did not care about her future. As Matilda’s parents were not much concerned about her, she joined her school a bit late. At school Matilda found new friends and teachers. She also met a new teacher, Miss. Honey. Miss. Honey realized that Matilda’s abilities and finds that she had already passed the lessons that were taught in lower classes. Matilda also hears about Mrs. Trunchbull, the headmistress of the school. She was a very cruel lady, she hated little children. All classes of the school had a class of Mrs. Trunchbull once a week, and Matilda’s class also had Mrs. Trunchbull taking classes on Thursday’s. During one of Trunchbulls first class, Lavender, one of Matilda’s best friends, played a prank with Trunchbull by putting a newt (a slimy creature, like an alligator) in her dinking water. Mrs. Trunchbull, who was really very angry with the students wanted to find the culprit and guessed it was Matilda who did it and punished her. Matilda, who was extremely sad and angry about the issue, was in a very different stage of mind. She felt as if there was something weird going along her, she felt like the glass of water along with the newt should spill just on to Trunchbulls head. She felt thousands of invisible hands pushing through her eyes and tripping the glass on to Trunchbulls head. It was amazing. Even Matilda couldn’t believe she did it. Angry with everybody, Trunchbull left the class with her face white. None of them could believe how the glass itself fell off. Matilda wanted to share it to someone, she felt like saying it to Miss. Honey. A while later all the students in the class went to the playground to play and only Matilda and Miss. Honey were left in the class. Matilda shared her experience with Miss. Honey and one again showed her how it had happened. Miss. Honey felt like taking to Matilda and invited her to her cottage. Matilda, when she saw Miss. Honeys cottage, was very surprised at the same time was sad too. Miss. Honey was living in such a poor condition that she did not even have enough to eat. Miss. Honey felt like thinking and sharing to Matilda about her childhood. Miss. Honey said that her father as a doctor and after the death of her mother her aunt was called to take care of her. Her aunt was a cruel lady and made her suffer a lot. After the death of her father her aunt took the house and all the properties of her own. When Honey was old enough, she got a job as a teacher and still her aunt said her that she should pay her as she took care of Honey for all these years. She asked her to pay all her salary for the next ten years and she wound be paid one pound each month. She also said that Mrs. Trunchbull was her wicked aunt. Matilda felt sad about Honey and decided to help her. Before leaving the cottage Matilda asked about how Trunchbull, Miss. Honey and her father were each called? Matilda understood that Mrs. Trunchbull was called Agatha, Miss. Honey was called Jenny and her father was called Magnus. Matilda decided to use her special power to help Miss. Honey retrain her house. She practiced so much that within a week she was able to lift things, move them and hold them for a long. The very next Thursday, when Trunchbull had come to their class, Matilda lift the chock from the table and wrote on the board, “ Agatha, I am Magnus, return my house and properties to my Jenny, or you will have pay”. Mrs. Trunchbull, seeing this thought it was Magnus’s ghost and ran out of the class and never returned. After this incident Miss. Honey gained the rights to own the house and properties. Then on Matilda was her best friend. Once when Matilda reached home from Miss. Honey's house, she saw that her parents were in a hurry of packing things and they were leaving to Spain. Matilda rushed to Miss. Honey and informed her. Miss. Honey said that Matilda’s father was a wicked man as he was selling stolen cars, by changing their no. plates. Matilda pleaded to Miss. Honey that she was not willing to go along with her parents and wanted to stay with her. Miss. Honey also agreed and got permission from Matilda’s parents to keep Matilda with her, and then on both of them had a very beautiful life.It was rea
