So funny 2015-04-22

I have always loved Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. They are addicting. But usually they never follow a storyline, they just give random incidences from Greg's life. In this book, there actually was a story. And eve though it meant having the worst road trip ever, it al gave you something to think about at the end of the book.

this story is fantasic but Tale[edit] Little Red Riding Hood, illustrated in a 1927 story anthology The story revolves around a girl called Little Red Riding Hood. In the Grimms' and Perrault's versions of the tale, she is named after the red hooded cape/cloak that she wears. The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sickly grandmother (wine and cake depending on the translation). In the Grimms' version, she had the order from her mother to stay strictly on the path. A mean wolf wants to eat the girl and the food in the basket. He secretly stalks her behind trees, bushes, shrubs, and patches of little and tall grass. He approaches Little Red Riding Hood and she naïvely tells him where she is going. He suggests that the girl pick some flowers; which she does. In the meantime; he goes to the grandmother's house and gains entry by pretending to be the girl. He swallows the grandmother whole (in some stories, he locks her in the closet) and waits for the girl, disguised as the grandma. When the girl arrives, she notices that her grandmother looks very strange. Little Red then says, "What a deep voice you have!" ("The better to greet you with"), "Goodness, what big eyes you have!" ("The better to see you with"), "And what big hands you have!" ("The better to hug/grab you with"), and lastly, "What a big mouth you have" ("The better to eat you with!"), at which point the wolf jumps out of bed, and swallows her up too. Then he falls asleep. In Charles Perrault's version of the story (the first version to be published), the tale ends here. However, in later versions the story continues generally as follows:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9: The Long Haul (English) by Jeff Kinney 2015-08-14

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9: The Long Haul (English) by Jeff KGreg narrates that his mother Susan announces that the family are going on a road trip, interrupting him and his brothers watching television on a day during summer vacation. While packing for the trip, the family find out that they have too many belongings, Greg's father Frank suggests they use his boat he bought to store the extra essentials. During the drive, Susan takes out a Flat Stanley and takes some pictures with it. After the drive, the Heffley family arrive at a grocery store, where Susan sends Greg's older brother Rodrick to purchase food. The Heffleys then arrive at a run-down motel, at which point it is revealed that Rodrick purchased junk food instead of the healthy food Susan told him to buy, and the family end up eating it for dinner. Later that night, Greg and Rodrick decide to go to the pool, but find that it's been empty for some time. There is a hot tub nearby, but a beardo family is using it and they can't convince the family to let them use it. They return to their room to find that the rest of the family has fallen asleep, taking up the bed. Rodrick proceeds to make a bed for himself out of cushions leaving Greg to try to sleep in the closet. He is only asleep for a few minutes before being woken by the kids from the hot tub ramming a cleaning cart into a wall. Greg yells at them for causing noise, making the smallest kid cry and his father come out. Greg nicknames the family the "Beardos". Greg runs back to safety to his and his families room. The next day, the Heffleys go to a country fair, where Greg finds that the Beardos are there as well. Rodrick submits to a foulest shoe competition one of his shoes and wins, but doesn't get the shoe back. Manny wins a competition for guessing a hog's weight, but the prize turns out to be a piglet, which the Heffleys are forced to take. The family plans to spend the night at a hotel suite this time, but it has a strict no-pet policy so Mom smuggles the baby pig in the cooler until reaching their room. The pig ends up causing a big mess in the room, forcing the family to pay $50 and even more sums for violating the policy. On their third day, Gregs Dad gets an emergency call from work. In the meantime, they go to various places, such as a popcorn museum and one with carvings of every U.S President out of butter. While driving, Dad gets a call from one of his international clients, asking the family to stay quiet. But almost immediately chaos ensues, Greg is bitten by the pig, and Dad's call is ruined. They ended up taking the pig to a petting zoo, which makes Manny very upset. Later Greg goes to a vet because of a pig bite. Manny tries to run away three times and is forced to be on a leash. Dad uses cellophane and tape to "fix" the sunroof, but it doesn't hold up for long when a storm breaks out and the handmade sunroof breaks. Mom parks the car in an overpass to rethink their plans over. Mom convinces the rest of the family that because the trip was terrible so far, they will use a method of deciding which way to go for picking things. The method works, and they also get in hot water with a funeral procession, but Mom doesn't want to stop her plan. On the fourth day, they try to figure out where to go, but they have too much places to choose. They ended up going on their way to the beach, but a seagull flies into the car, and in the ensuing chaos they rear-end a car on the bridge and break their car's radiator. Their car is towed to a mechanic's shop for repairs. Greg is surprised to see a water park that he was thinking about doing not far away, but many misfortunes happen, including when they found that their seat and valuables may have been stolen by the Beardos. The Heffleys call the police, but to of no avail. With no money or phones, they go to the mechanic's and get their car back, which was the only valuable item the Beardos didn't steal. All the stuff in the boat flies out, and they spend two hours trying to retrieve the contents, but many items are still missing and some of the items aren't theirs. The family finds some loose cash in the car to buy a quick dinner. The next morning, the whole family accidentally lock themselves out of the car. They send Manny in from the sunroof, but make a mistake when they remember that he had been trying to run away. After his attempt to drive the car failed, he let them in. After a while, they find the motel where they spent their first night. They find the Beardos there again, and rummage through their stuff, trying to find their belongings, but find nothing belonging to them. Dad decides to use their bathroom, while the family goes back to the car. Dad soon comes running out of the room into the car as the Beardos' father chases him. In the attempt to get away, they do not follow instructions given by the repairman, causing the car to break and they get a flat tire. A car with two brothers pull over to offer some hel

A Long Haul Indeed! 2016-01-07

I believed after reading this book that even though its story line is not very defined, the basic backbone of the story is continued throughout the book, which is not seen in any of the other books. In this book,we get a new perspective on the characters of Rodrick, disobeying rules completely, as well as Manny, who always gets what he wants. However, as usual, the main character, Greg shines throughout the story as the Heffley family seem to be getting into one unfortunate incident after the other. It is truly a very enjoyable read!

Not Great 2016-03-14

This one is OK . But compared to other Wimpy kid series this one isn't great . It's about how he wimpy kid along with his family goes on a road trip on their way , the rip turns out to be a total disaster . the book is a book fill with funny surprises and unpredictable laughter . If your looking for a good book to laugh on I would rather suggest Rodrick Rules or The last straw rather then the long haul.

THE LONG HAUL 2016-08-18

Jeff Kinney is one of my most favourite authors...he writes in a very good manner ... all his books are turning out to be a best seller...the long haul is one of them.. i borrowed it from one of my friends .... it is now my favourite book written by him ... diary of a wimpy kid series has turned out to become the best in humour and amusement among young readers ... the ugly truth was the first book i read in whole life time...and from then onwards i dreamt of becoming a voracious reader... keep writing jeff kinney !!!

A Tragic Story Full Of Humor !!! 2016-10-25

It could all be cliché, but Kinney's done this comedy thing before and knows how to set the story up pretty cleverly and throw in a few surprises. Greg's mom has such high hopes for a family vacation that readers will almost be sorry it doesn't go at all according to plan -- but of course, that's what makes THE LONG HAUL extra funny. There are brief moments where the family listens to her Spanish CDs -- especially little Manny, apparently -- and everyone plays the car games she's brought and eats her healthy "Mom Meal" lunches. But mostly the trip goes wrong. It's like author Jeff Kinney has the road-trip-misadventure checklist handy: car breaks down, money's gone, motel smells, animals reek havoc (more than one here), they get lost in the wrong place (hunting area -- yikes!).

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9: The Long Hau 2016-10-30

A family road trip is supposed to be a lot of fun . . . unless, of course, you’re the Heffleys. The journey starts off full of promise, then quickly takes several wrong turns. Gas station bathrooms, crazed seagulls, a fender bender, and a runaway pig—not exactly Greg Heffley’s idea of a good time. But even the worst road trip can turn into an adventure—and this is one the Heffleys won’t soon forget.

The long haul 2016-12-02

summer vacation has just gotten underway. Greg looks forward to a long summer of relaxing and doing nothing important. But his mother, Sue, after reading an article about family vacations in Family Frolic Magazine, decides the family will go on such a vacation. Sue determines they will use the Family Frolic article as a guide to their own vacation. Greg, his father Frank, and his brothers Rodrick and Manny are uncertain about the trip. The family packs up their minivan, and attaches Frank’s old boat to the back. They then get on their way. The family misses several sightseeing opportunities because Manny is napping, and they do not want to wake him up. The motel the family takes for the first night is run-down and dirty. Greg and Rodrick go to use the hot tub, but a large, hairy, bearded man and his annoying family are using it and won’t get out. Greg nicknames the family “The Beardos”. Trying to sleep, Greg later hears loud sounds outside. There, he discovers the Beardo children ramming a janitorial cart into the wall. Greg yells at them, but must rush back inside when the Beardo father comes out to yell at him. The family next heads to the annual county fair. There, Greg narrowly avoids running into the Beardos. Manny guesses the weight of a pig at a weight-guessing contest, and wins a baby pig as a result. The baby pig causes numerous problems, from eating out of the minibar at the next hotel to scrambling around the minivan and causing Frank to swerve over to the side of the road. Frank puts his foot down and demands the pig be given up to a petting zoo. Manny is very unhappy with this. After the minivan’s sunroof breaks, rain floods everyone inside, causing Sue to declare that the family still has a chance to have a good vacation, and will stop following the Family Frolic guidelines. By taking random turns, Greg and his family end up in a small town diner with amazing apple pie. When leaving, they interrupt a funeral procession. The mourners are not happy. Greg’s family then decides to head to the beach. Stuck on the bridge to the beach, Greg decides to feed a seagull through the sunroof, leading to the minivan being flooded with seagulls, and causing a fender-bender. The minivan must then be repaired, so Greg and his family decide to spend the next few hours at Soak Central, a crowded water amusement park. They put their personal possessions away in a locker, and then manage to find a lawn chair to put their clothes on to go swimming. Greg discovers the Beardo family has taken their chair, left their clothes on the ground – and has taken their locker key. Greg and his family have the staff open up their locker, only to discover it is empty. Greg and his family decide enough is enough, and head home. As they head home, they discover which motel the Beardos are staying at, and sneak into the Beardos’ room to see if their personal possessions can be found. Frank is caught using the bathroom, and throws the Beardos’ keys into the bushes to have a chance at escape without being followed. The minivan’s radiator breaks, and then gets a flat tire. A passing Hispanic father and son stop to help. Manny surprises everyone by speaking Spanish. Manny directs the father and son to the petting zoo, where Frank and Susan agree to bring the baby pig back home as a pet. The boat is given to the father and son as a gift. Back at home, Frank must spend days canceling his credit cards, ordering new ones, and getting things back in order. Greg later finds out he had the locker key all along, and that the number on the key was different than the locker the staff opened up. Greg wonders whether he will tell his parents or not about the key – and if so, what story he will invent to use.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #9: The Long Haul 2017-09-04

From lost keys to flat tires, biting pigs and cheese snack loving seagulls, you can bet you and your kids are in for a wild ride as you venture out on this classic family vacation with the Heffleys. While reading it with my 5-year-old son I was reminded of our own cross country road trip. The car was packed to the gills since we were moving from Seattle to Maryland. We had bags overflowing with snacks and more activities than could possibly entertain the kids. Unlike the Heffleys, we also had a plan. After reading The Long Haul I have never been so happy to be a travel planner in my life. We get spontaneous with our adventures, but nothing like mama Heffley tried to do.

the long haul 2017-09-04

After summer vacation starts, Greg's mother Susan announces that the family is going on a road trip. At a cheap motel that night, Greg and Rodrick decide to go to the pool, but find that there is no water in it. There is a hot tub nearby, but it is occupied by a family and they cannot convince the family to let them use it. They return to their room to find that the rest of the family has fallen asleep, taking up the bed. Rodrick proceeds to make a bed for himself out of sofa cushions leaving Greg to sleep in the closet. He falls asleep for a few minutes before being woken up by kids who were playing with a cleaning cart. Greg yells at them for causing a commotion, making the smallest kid cry and call for his father, who nearly catches Greg. Greg nicknames the family the "Beardos". The next day, the Heffleys go to a country fair, where Greg finds that the Beardos are there as well. Rodrick submits one of his shoes to the "foulest shoe competition" in the fair and wins, but doesn't get the shoe back. Manny wins a competition for guessing a hog's weight, but the prize is a piglet, which the Heffleys are forced to take with them. The family plans to spend the night at a hotel suite, but it has a strict no pet policy so Mom smuggles the baby pig in a cooler until the Heffleys reach their room. The pig ends up raiding the minibar, forcing the family to pay not only for the food and drinks consumed by the pig, but also an extra $50 for violating the hotel's no animal policy. On their third day, Greg's dad Frank gets an emergency call from work. In the meantime, the family go to various places. While driving, Dad gets a call from one of his international clients, asking the family to stay quiet. But chaos ensues, Greg is bitten by the pig, and it attempts to escape, consequently ruining Frank's call. Infuriated, Frank ends up taking the pig to a petting zoo, which makes Manny very upset. Later Greg goes to a vet because of the pig bite. Manny tries to run away twice and is forced to be on a leash. Soon it rains and Mom rethinks their road trip plans over. Mom convinces the rest of the family that because the trip was terrible so far, they will use a method of deciding which way to go for picking things, similar to how Choose Your Own Adventure works. The method works, but the car ends up in the middle of a funeral procession; Frank tries to make a few quick turns but it turns out the part of the procession behind him is following the car; believing the Heffleys' car to be part of it. Frank announces to the family that he's going to go on to the highway and lose them there but Susan convinces him to take them to the nearest cemetery instead; Frank enters "cemetery" into the satellite navigation and finds one a mile away; but upon arriving there they find out that they are in a pet cemetery. The procession are enraged by the Heffleys' and the family quickly escape. On the fourth day, the Heffleys try to figure out where to go, and Greg's mother chooses the beach. On the way there a seagull flies into their car through the open sunroof, and everyone freaks out. Rodrick, who is driving at that time, panics and steps on the gas pedal, rear-ends the car in front of them and break their car's radiator. The Heffleys car is towed to a mechanic's shop for repairs. Greg is surprised to see that a water park that he was thinking about going to is very close to them, but many misfortunes happen, and the family thought that their valuables were stolen by the Beardos Greg encountered at the hotel. The Heffleys call the police, but to no avail. Fortunately, their car keys were at the mechanic's and they go to the mechanic's to retrieve their car, but with their money presumed stolen, they cannot pay for the repairs. As a result, the mechanic uses sealant to temporarily fix the radiator. The drawback is that the car's heater has to run at full blast to prevent engine overheating. While on the highway, a tarp covering Frank's boat loosens and the Heffleys' items begin falling out. They spend two hours trying to retrieve the contents, but many items are still missing. The family finds some loose cash in the car and buys nuggets from a fast food place for dinner. Then the family tries to find a place to sleep. Greg's father drives the car into the wilderness mistakenly believing that there was going to be a camping site in that area. The cinnamon rolls Rodrick had purchased previously, which were sitting on top of the car's operating heater vents (their car heater had to run at full blast due to the broken radiator), explodes, sending cinnamon bits onto the back of Rodrick's head. Rodrick panics thinking that the slime was his brains, and gets even more upset when Manny licks the stuff off his fingers. After a cleanup, the family finds a grocery store and parks in the parking lot for the night. The next morning, the whole family accidentally lock themselves out of the car. They send Manny in from the open sunroof, but
