Ramayana: what do you think of when you hear this name? Rama, Sita, Lakshman, Hanuman, Ravana and many more characters. But have you ever read the Ramayana? If no, then this is the best book for you. All incidents, all characters: everyone and everything has been told in compplete detail! From the birth of Rama till the point when Sita goes into the ground, all details are given in this book. Also, even the illustrations of this book are fantastic! Overall, a 5- star rating to this book from my side. A must- read book for those who keep a keen interest in Indian Mythology

Ramayana Traditionally, the Ramayana is attributed to Valmiki. The Hindu tradition is unanimous in its agreement that the poem is the work of a single poet; the sage Valmiki, a contemporary of Rama and a peripheral actor in the drama. The story's original version in Sanskrit is known as Valmiki Ramayana, dating to approximately the 5th to 4th century BC.While it is often viewed as a primarily devotional text, the vshnavi elements appear to be later accretions, possibly dating to the 2nd century BC or later. The main body of the narrative lacks statements of Rama's divinity, and identifications of Rama with Vishnu are rare and subdued even in the later parts of the text.According to Hindu tradition—and according to the Ramayana itself—the Ramayana belongs to the genre ofitih?sa, like the Mahabharata. The definition of itih?sa has varied over time, with one definition being that itih?sais a narrative of past events (pur?v?tta) which includes teachings on Goals of human life

Never thought Indian mythology was so interesting 2015-09-20

Do i really need to introduce ram, sita and laxman. they are the heroes of indian mythology and who doesn't know them.indians worship them.this book was beautifully written by valmiki in sanskrit 1000s of years ago.since then it has become world famous and has been translated in many languages.this book should especially be read by kids. as no hero obeys every word of his father or mother like ram. this book teaches us that good will always triumph over evil and that in all aged ram will always triumph over ravan

valmiki's ramayana 2016-08-23

Valmiki's Ramayana is believed to be the first poetic work written in Sanskrit; it is, therefore, referred to as the Adikavya. It is said that Brahma assured Valmiki that "as long as the mountains stand and the rivers flow, so long shall the Ramayana be read by men". In the Puranas, Rama is described as an avatar of Vishnu, but Valmiki does not refer to him as God. The few verses which do so are considered interpolations. The Ramayana consists of 24,000 verses. There are six sections - The Bala Kanda, the Ayodhya Kanda, the Aranya Kanda, the Kishkindha Kanda, the Sundara Kanda and the Yuddha Kanda. The seventh section, the Uttara Kanda, is probably an interpolation. Valmiki's monumental work influenced other great poems on the same theme. Among these are the Hindi, Tamil and Bengali versions of the Ramayana written by Tulsidas in the North; Kamban in the South; and Krittivasa in the East. The Ramayana has made a deep and abiding impact. Bas reliefs and paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana are to be found not only in temples all over India, but also in Indonesia and Angkor Vat, Kampuchea.

Valmiki's Ramayana 2016-10-25

This is a modern comic book rendition of the ancient Indian classic. The story, something of a cross between soap opera and fable, is a beautiful one that celebrates virtue, especially that of keeping one's word and honoring agreements. Being a comic book it was obviously a quick, easy read but it does introduce the story lines of Rama and Sita and even some of the ancient history and geography of India.

Valmiki's Ramayana 2017-09-08

The epic, traditionally ascribed to the Hindu sage Valmiki, narrates the life of Rama, the legendary prince of the Kosala Kingdom. It follows his banishment from the kingdom by his father King Dasharatha, his travels across forests in India with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, the kidnapping of his wife by Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, resulting in a war with him, and Rama's eventual return to Ayodhya to be crowned king. The Ramayana is one of the largest ancient epics in world literature. It consists of nearly 24,000 verses (mostly set in the Shloka meter), divided into seven Kandas (books) and about 500 sargas (chapters). In Hindu tradition, it is considered to be the adi-kavya (first poem). It depicts the duties of relationships, portraying ideal characters like the ideal father, the ideal servant, the ideal brother, the ideal wife and the ideal king. Ramayana was an important influence on later Sanskrit poetry and Hindu life and culture. Like Mahabharata, Ramayana is not just a story: it presents the teachings of ancient Hindu sages in narrative allegory, interspersing philosophical and ethical elements. The characters Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Bharata, Hanuman and Ravana are all fundamental to the cultural consciousness of India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and south-east Asian countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia. There are many versions of Ramayana in Indian languages, besides Buddhist, Sikh and Jain adaptations. There are also Cambodian, Indonesian, Filipino, Thai, Lao, Burmese and Malaysian versions of the tale.
